Rupnagar district has a very religious heritage culture as marked the Great Sikh Guru had either permanently settled in important towns like Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib or had paid their precious visits to various parts of this district. Gurduwara KESHGARH SAHIB at Anandpur Sahib (Known as birth place of KHALSA PANTH), Gurdwara Patalpuri at Kiratpur Sahib, Gurdwara Pariwara Vichhora (near Ghanauli), Sada Barat and Bhatha Sahib in Rupnagar City and some other Gurdwaras relating to 10th Great Sikh Guru exist at Chamkaur Sahib. Devotees/pilgrims from all north India and abroad arrive at these religious places to pay their obeisance through the year besides the annual fairs like Holla Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib and Shaheedijor mela at Chamkaur Sahib where lacs of devotees from all over India and abroad join these religious festivals.
In addition to above, Rupnagar district has became the attraction point/tourist place for tourists coming from all over India and abroad due to existence of Bhakhra Dam, Nangal Dam at Nangal , Bird century near Boat Club Rupnagar where migrated birds of varians kinds arrive from different parts of the world, specially during winter season.
In order to guide the pilgrims/tourists, visiting the above said places a Tourist Police unit has been established in this district and the public as well as the tourists have advised this initiative of Distt. Police Rupnagar . The Police personnel (both men and women) deployed in this unit not only guide the out sides/tourist to visit these places but also save them from traffic hazards by telling them proper route/destination, to help them in procuring tickets/seeking entries for museums, resorts, transports and also protect them from touts and cheaters to guide them matters relating to passport, visas, residential permits, exchange of currency and immigration issues, and guide them about local customs/traditions. The police personnel deployed in the Tourist Police unit have got professional training from Dr. Ambedkar Hotel Management Catering and institution, Sector 12-D, Chandigarh and perform their duty like trained civil guide.
